Introduction to George Stylianides
George joined the Board of Directors in October 2023. He is a Chartered Accountant and retired PwC partner, he has expertise in audit, risk and regulation across financial services. George is Chair of the Bank’s Audit Committee and has a particular interest in supporting the Board’s oversight of governance, risk and compliance management.
George has a keen interest in contributing to organisations that make a positive social impact. He has gained additional leadership and governance experience with a number of charities, and he has a current Trustee appointment on the board of London City Mission and the Audit and Risk Committee of the Church Commissioners.

Past experience
George has worked in Financial Services for over 34 years as both an auditor and management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”). He lived and worked in Japan for five years where he built his first risk management business. Subsequently, he built PwC’s risk and regulation business in the UK and globally. He has worked with a broad range of financial institutions including Aviva, Coop Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Nationwide, and Standard Chartered Bank.
George’s Non-Executive career includes appointments such as financial and risk oversight of the Church of England’s endowment fund that is used to fund dioceses, mission, and the pensions of clergy and member of London City Mission. He was previously a Trustee at Home for Good, a charity dedicated to finding a home for every child who’s needs one.
George has had significant experience coaching and mentoring senior leaders, and at PwC was a mentor on the 30% programme which aims to increase diversity and inclusion. George studied at the London School of Economics and holds an MSc in Economics. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
